I would like to express my sincere appreciation for Teacher Khethiwe's exceptional instruction in English. Under her guidance, I have made significant progress in my ability to construct sentences and engage in fluent conversations. Previously, I struggled to comprehend spoken English due to unfamiliar vocabulary, but Teacher Khethiwe's expertise has not only enhanced my language skills but also broadened my vocabulary and deepened my understanding of the language. Her teaching has had a profound impact on my ability to communicate effectively in English

Teacher Khethiwe is one of the teachers that I can say, teaching is not just a career to her but a calling! When I start attending her lessons I was from rural areas. I didn't know English at all, and that made me uncomfortable when it comes to communicating and writing English. She was patient with me, making some extra classes, teaching me pronunciation and grammar. She was always talking positive to boost my confidence. I'm doing my final year at University ever since her lessons I have managed to communicate with lectures, students and everyone else . Thank you!

Teacher Khethiwe is a great English teacher. She knows how to engage with her students and find different ways to help each student towards their needs through grammar and vocabulary. My English is exceptional because of her expertise. Teacher Khethiwe helped me to improve my vocabulary especially towards reading. I would struggle to spell some words and she came up with a technique which still helps me at university towards my vocabulary. Any student who would have her as a English teacher will be privileged to have her because she is a passionate teacher who goes all out for her students.

Questions for You

Q: What is your approach to teaching writing, and how do you help students develop their writing skills?

Two approaches that work for me are the Process Approach and Genre/Product approach. The Process Approach allows me to teach my students writing skills using phases of the writing process. The Genre Approach requires my students to examine texts before starting their writing. I make my students understand that writing is a process that requires patience and practice. I explain to them the importance of grammar, sentence structure, and context in writing. Lastly, I encourage my students to revise their writing every day.

Q: How do you help students with grammar, spelling, and punctuation?

Revision is important. I do emphasize that to my students. I use visual grammar posters when introducing new words to my students. That helps them to look at the picture as they practice writing and spelling. I teach my students different punctuations, when, and how to use them. I always encourage my students to buy grammar and spelling books, crossword games, playing word games, and Apps. Another method that works for me is to practice spelling with them by pointing out oddly spelled words and encouraging them to rewrite them correctly. I scaffold my students through practice and application.

Q: What is your approach to teaching reading, and how do you help students improve their reading comprehension skills?

We understand that students are different, and can't learn their reading skills the same. I need to understand their needs, and how to help them overcome their challenges. However, some of the common methods that I use to help them are: Teaching them vocabulary, helping them understand common themes, interactive reading, comprehension monitoring, predicting, thinking strategies, visualization, story mapping, use of visual mapping material, regular reading routine, and engaging and encouraging them to read.

Q: How do you help students with literary analysis and critical thinking skills?

My students need to understand the difference between summary and literary analysis. I teach them to be able to identify key facts as part of the process of literary analysis skills. I encourage them to read actively and annotate the text. To stimulate their critical thinking skills, I use visual aids, diagrams, and graphs that help them analyze and observe information. Brainstorming helps students improve their critical thinking. I also use the question-and-answer method. Asking them questions inspires their critical thinking. However, I select methods based on a student's age and level of understanding.

Q: How do you help students with pronunciation and enunciation?

I pay attention to phonemes and phonetic transcriptions. I encourage my students to listen to different English-language podcasts. I ask them to speak slowly and tell stories. I encourage my students to engage in life conversation practices regularly. I teach them to learn to position their mouth and tongue properly. I correct my students' pronunciation errors through facial expressions and gestures, and by pointing out the type of mistake they made immediately they make a mistake. I find ways to accommodate my strategies when teaching online and teaching offline.

Q: How do you help students with public speaking or presentation skills?

Students need to be taught the basics of effective speaking. I teach them how to project their voices when doing presentations. I also teach them how they must stand, or position their body when doing their presentations. They need to learn the importance of eye contact during presentation. I teach them articulation and the correct formal tone of voice for presentation. They need to take time and use body language when doing presentations. When it comes to presentation skills, practice is the key.

Q: Can you explain complex English grammar rules in simpler terms for easier understanding?

A complex sentence contains only one independence clause one dependent clause. By inependence clause I mean main clause. For an example, a complex sentence has an independent and a dependent clause. On the other hand a complex-compound sentence contains two ndependent clauses and one dependent clause. We have two types of clauses: Independent clauses, that can stand alone as a sentence, and dependent clauses, that can not stand alone as a sentence. You will notice these sentences by the use of "if", "when", and "because."

Q: How do you motivate students who struggle with the language?

There are different ways and strategies to motivate students who are struggling with English. Triggering their interests to learning English works. I do so by making English learning personal to each of my students. I always integrate fun activities, technology, and games to keep them motivated. I alow them to share their language experience with me and give them advise.

Q: Are you familiar with the English curriculum and course requirements at my school?

This depends on each school's or course curriculum requirements. All I need is to require information that will help me know my student's school curriculum or course requirements.

Q: How do you help students prepare for English exams and assignments?

The English exam aims to test a learner’s level of understanding of the language. I encourage my students to practice their language skills daily. They need to divide equal time into the four skills, they must immerse their language study into their everyday life. Finding their language buddy motivates them to practice speaking the language every day. We also have different vocabulary revision tools that I advise them to use. Apps and games also help. Reading every day allows them to get to grips with grammar. Besides that, I then help them practice their previous exam papers. I help them understand how to approach and structure their exam paper sections according to the time allocated to the exam paper. When it comes to assignments, I teach them how to read and interpret writing assignments. I ask them to clarify any misunderstanding they have with an assignment that disturbs them from getting started on the right track. I then guide them all step of the way. I encourage them to fully engage in writing their assignment.

Q: How do you ensure that students are actively engaged during tutoring sessions?

I normally enhance my tutoring sessions by incorporating interactive content like videos, quizzes, and by using collaborative tools like digital tools and devices. I keep on providing personalized feedback to keep my students actively engaged. Understanding my students' needs plays a key role in the process.

Q: Can you help with test-taking strategies for English exams?

These are some of the strategies that can help students to approach English exams successfully: - Arrive early in an exam venue, that will help you calm down and reduce anxiety. - They must fight to answer all the questions in a question paper. - They must read the questions with understanding first before writing their answers. - Do not sleep late the night before the exam. - Practise for your test by using previous exam papers. - Listen to instructions carefully to avoid mistakes.

Q: Are you willing to provide additional practice problems or resources for independent study?

I will highly appreciate offering to support students who are studying independently. Independent study is one of the most challenging forms of study for some students. Some students are struggling to study without support from their co-students. That is where I come in to ease that stress. Some students don’t know how to do a research project. Some cannot understand the instructions. Students need to understand that by enrolling in an independent education institution like online schools or courses, they take ownership of their educational path. They need to set their own goals and monitor their progress. I am available to help those students.

Q: Are you able to provide assistance with English language certification exams, such as TOEFL or IELTS?

The purpose of the TOEFL and IELTS is to measure the English language ability of non-native speakers wishing to enroll in English-speaking universities. Preparing for the exam becomes very stressful for some students. I assist students by providing them with simulation tests, sample questions, vocabulary-building exercises, and English language practice question papers. I help my students practice writing, speaking, listening, and reading English. I teach them how to succeed on timed exams.

Q: Can you provide guidance on choosing appropriate reading materials for improving English language skills?

First of all, I need to understand my students' interests before I can choose appropriate reading materials for them. This is so because the material that I choose must be relevant to my student so that he/she can engage with the text. I chose the material based on my student's goals, level, and interests. Some students practice English for general, work, basic, or academic purposes. That is why I need to keep my student's interests in mind before I can choose an appropriate reading material for them.

Q: How do you help students with business English skills, such as writing professional emails or conducting meetings in English?

We have different key points to pay attention to if we want to send a professional email to a client. I have listed some of the below: - The use of a professional tone is the first thing to look at when drafting your email. The heading of an email must set the tone of the email. - An appropriate greeting and the purpose of an email is important. - The use of the professional email address. - good introduction, body, and conclusion. - Listing of key important points of the email and subject lines are also important. - You can not send your email without proofreading it.

Q: How do you help students with understanding and applying literary devices in English literature?

I teach my students ways to identify literary devices in English literature like simile, alliteration, allusion, foreshadowing, metaphors, onomatopoeia, allegory, assonance, euphemism, imagery, anaphora, hyperbole, personification, anachronism, antithesis, irony, metonymy, motif, oxymoron, symbolism, apostrophe, flashback, juxtaposition, and anthropomorphism. It takes a lot of practice for a student to identify these devices in the literature. I help them develop the skills they need to spot the difference between literary devices.

Q: How do you encourage students to pursue their own writing interests in English?

I encourage my students to love writing in different ways. But to mention a few; I encourage them to have their journal writing and by encouraging them to write letters and create a storyboard. I teach them to read before writing, by teaching them to create their storybook. Students need to understand that writing is a process. It takes years for one to become a pro-writer. However, practice makes perfect. I give my students to talk about their writing process and to revise their work. They need to learn the importance of grammar and sentence structure, as well as content.
